Abstract
Anxiety-related disorders are a leading cause for decreased quality of life worldwide. Treatment options are sparse and the molecular mechanism of anxiety is poorly understood, underlying the need for good animal models of anxiety. Here a concise overview about different approaches is given, including genetic manipulation, strain differences, bidirectional breeding and environmental interventions. Limitations of the different approaches and their best use in anxiety research will be discussed.
