Abstract

Hypertension is a polygenic and multifactorial disease that has received a great deal of interest because of its high incidence not only in the West but also in developing countries. It is therefore essential to be able to understand and treat it. A brief overview is given on the main experimental mouse models of hypertension based on genetic and non-genetic methods. The main issues and caveats of blood pressure measurements in mice, and the variability among strains, genders and ages are discussed.
