Abstract
Over the last two decades, important insights into the intracellular insulin receptor signaling cascade have been gained. To characterize the role of different signaling molecules involved in the development of insulin resistance, numerous animal models have been created. Especially mouse models using conditional and conventional mutagenesis have been generated to examine the function of genes involved in insulin receptor signal transduction. Because of the large quantity of in vitro and in vivo models, we here focus on mouse models concerning the insulin receptor and insulin receptor substrates.
