Abstract
Approximately 1 in 20 individuals in Europe and North America suffers from an autoimmune disease. Current treatments are nonspecific and fail to prevent the underlying autoimmune response. Regulatory T cells have been shown to control autoimmunity in healthy individuals. Here we focus on strategies developed to promote immune regulation through the administration of antigenic peptides.
