Abstract

•The proposed new fuel consists 15% (v/v) of biofuels.•The majority of the H2O was removed from diesel/biodiesel/JP8 Fuel.•The used removable additive is a natural and cheap product.•We propose a new fuel with environmental and economic benefits.

In this study, conventional diesel, biodiesel, both animal-fat and vegetable based, as well as Jet fuel (JP8) samples were used in order to prepare a new fuel blend which offers physicochemical properties within the limits of the conventional diesel standards. In specific the new proposed fuel resulted from the mixing of 80%, per volume, of conventional diesel, 15% of biodiesel and 5% of Jet fuel (JP8). After the fuels' blending the majority of the existent moisture amount was removed using a simple process where natural resin polymer was added for limited time and was removed mechanically after. The key physicochemical properties of fuel such as density, kinematic viscosity, conductivity and water content were measured by following the standard test methods. In addition, the storage stability test for both studied samples evinces that the physicochemical properties of those samples remain stable even after 30 and 120 days from their preparation. Furthermore, blends of 80% of diesel and 20% of both biodiesel types were utilized properties without the limits of those of diesel fuel. Overall, the recipe for the suggested new fuel can be used from the industry in order to utilize the benefits of the 15% of the biodiesel component.
