The nature of mineral matter in coal is heterogeneous which may affect ash formation and the char-ash deposition behavior during gasification, and could influence slag composition and slag flow property in a gasifier. Based on a bench-scale Opposed Multi-burner gasifier (OMB gasifier), the compositions of various char-ash samples with different carbon conversion and the slag that formed on the upper wall of the gasifier were characterized using XRF and SEM-EDS. The slag flow property was also analyzed. The composition of char-ash with different carbon conversion is different, and the slag that formed on the wall of burner-plane and gasifier dome are mainly comprised of excluded minerals. The viscosity of the studied slag is dependent on the composition of excluded minerals.
► The char-ash and slag in a bench-scale OMB gasifier were characterized. ► The viscosity of slag in a bench-scale OMB gasifier was analyzed. ► The composition of char-ash is close to that for included minerals. ► The composition of slag is mainly comprised of excluded minerals. ► The viscosity of slag is dependent on the composition of excluded minerals.
