Abstract

Kinetics of reaction between palladium(II) chloride complex and dimethylamineborane was investigated. Experiments were carried out at various initial concentrations of palladium(II) complex ions and reductant, ionic strengths and temperatures. Rate constants of the reaction were determined. Parameters of Arrhenius equation (Ea = 47.4 ± 8.0 kJ/mol, A = 3.76 × 108 s− 1) were calculated from empirical kinetic data. The rate law as well as mechanism of the reaction was also presented. The reaction was found to be second-ordered in respect to PdCl42− and pseudo-first ordered in respect to DMAB.

► Kinetics of reduction of [PdCl4-] with dimethylamine borane(DMAB) was investigated. ► Activation parameters in Arrhenius equation were calculated. ► DMAB is effective reductant for palladium(II) chloride complex. ► Reduction reaction is reversible and leads to the Pd dissolution. ► Palladium particles obtained during the reaction have a colloidal form.
