Abstract
⺠Sulfated polysaccharides with different sequences, molecular weights and polymeric backbone modulate hemostasis ⺠Heparinomimetics bind to the same sites in ECs and SMCs suggesting a common pathway for ECM dependent biological activities. ⺠The synthetic heparin pentasaccharide binding studies are in agreement with its longer bioavailability. ⺠Sulfation alone is not sufficient for protein binding and biological activities of the polysaccharides studied. ⺠Redundancy could be observed among the tested compounds once seemingly distinct structures could support similar activities.
