Abstract
Herein we report on the thermodynamic properties of water confined on the surface of 1.8 nm PdO particles. By evaluating these properties for two hydrous PdO samples that differ in hydration levels, PdO · 0.31H2O (1) and PdO · 0.92H2O (2), we have demonstrated that the degree of water coverage of the PdO particles subtly influences the heat capacity and 298 K vibrational entropy of the hydration layers.
► INS spectra are used to determine the thermodynamic properties of confined water. ► The coverage affects the heat capacity of the water on 1.8 nm PdO nanoparticles. ► The structure of water confined on PdO nanoparticles differs from that of ice-Ih.
