Abstract
Calcium (Ca2+) is a universal regulator of a wide variety of cellular processes. For such control to be achieved, information is encoded within spatial and temporal components of the underlying Ca2+ signal. One pathway through which Ca2+ signals are decoded is the Ras binary switch. Here I describe some recent advances that have shed light on how cells can decode the spatial and temporal aspects of Ca2+ signals through the regulation of this important signalling switch.
