Abstract

•Mean activity coefficients of KCl were determined in glycerol–water mixed solvents.•The Pitzer equations were used to describe non-ideal behavior of the electrolyte.•Pitzer parameters of the (KCl–glycerol–water) ternary system were calculated.•Excess Gibbs free energy, osmotic coefficient and solvent activity were calculated.

The mean activity coefficients of KCl were determined in glycerol–water mixed solvents, in the range of (0, 10, 20, 30, and 40)% of glycerol, from the electromotive force (EMF) data at (298.2, 303.2, and 310.2) K. The Pitzer equations were used to describe non-ideal behavior of the electrolyte, and the corresponding activity and osmotic coefficients were determined. Moreover, Pitzer parameters, the excess Gibbs free energy and solvent activity of KCl–glycerol–water system were calculated.
