Abstract

We have developed a new and very simple method for determining the solubility of gases in aqueous solutions, by using the Bunsen coefficient value. The procedure is based on an electrochemical measurement. By means of a reliable relationship between this electrical measurement and the gas concentration in the gas phase above the aqueous solution, the Bunsen coefficient value for this gas in the corresponding solvent was finally determined. Two different types of electrochemical sensors were used to prove the consistency of the method: one potentiometric and the other amperometric. The results obtained from both sensors would indicate that the method is consistent. In addition, we present an easy procedure for determining the partial pressure of the gas in the gas phase.
