Abstract
Gouy diffuse-layer theory is revisited to model the electric potential and ions distributions in the neighbourhood of charged surfaces in contact with phosphate buffers. The exact analytical solution of the Poisson–Boltzmann equation is given. We show that the attenuation length of the potential depends both on the ionic strength and on the pH of the buffer.
