Abstract

Chalcones are a privileged class of compounds reported to have important biologically active properties. Supercritical carbon dioxide can play a promising role in chalcones’ processing, either in view of natural compounds extraction or more likely as an alternative solvent in organic chemical reaction. In this work, the phase behaviour of 1,3-diphenyl-2-propenone, the core structure of chalcones, in dense CO2 was explored. The influence of dense carbon dioxide in chalcone melting point was studied for pressures up to 20 MPa. Equilibrium experiments in supercritical CO2 were performed in the pressure range from 9 to 20 MPa, at temperatures between 308 and 338 K.
