Abstract
A 6-year-old, female Boxer is presented for pigmented urine since three weeks. Urine analysis displayed a franc hematuria witout infection. Blood analysis and ultrasonographic examination were unremarkable. Nevertheless, cystoscopy allowed to visualization a blood jet coming from the left urethra. Idiopathic renal hematuria is a rare affection which must be included in the differential diagnosis of all cases of pigmenturia. This disease is due to a localized vascular anomaly in the kidney. The diagnostic approach consists in eliminating other causes of renal and extrarenal bleedings. Cystoscopy is the best way to identify the blood jet from urethra. Currently, there is no specific treatment available. A complete disappearance of symptoms can spontaneously occur. If anemia or urinary obstruction by a blood clot is present, unilateral nephrectomy is indicated.
