•Cervical cancer incidence in CEECA is >2 times higher than elsewhere in Europe.•Cervical cancer prevention is either inadequately organized or not organized at all.•Barriers to screening: poor coverage, infrastructure, financial resources.•No national recommendations or inclusion in national programs for HPV vaccination.•Urgent need to raise awareness of cervical cancer and prevention on societal level.
