Abstract

The paper deals with the cracking of reinforced concrete beams loaded with torsional moment. A theoretical approach to the calculation of oblique cracks for beams subjected to pure torsional moment and to combined torsion and shearing is presented. The ways of checking cracks in such elements, prescribed by the relevant standards are described. Experimentally determined widths of cracks in reinforced concrete beams subjected to torsion are reported and compared with the ones calculated from formulas found in the standards and in the literature.

► Original experimental research reinforced concrete beams under torsion. ► Analytical formulas for the calculation of cracks in the concrete elements under torsion.
