Abstract

The paper discusses the problems of material selection for the components of a vibration damper, i.e. the braids and flexible corrugated tube. Austenitic stainless steels were taken into consideration. The manufacture of braids and corrugated tubes was analysed in industrial conditions. The effect of variable technological parameters on final product quality was investigated, in order to optimize the technology considering the requirements to be met by the product, such as heat resistance, resistance to exhaust gas atmosphere, fatigue strength, high-temperature creep resistance, corrosion resistance or weight and cost minimization. The realized research resulted in starting an industrial scale production of high-quality vibration dampers meeting all specifications, technical and economical requirements.
