Abstract

The dome pendant prismatic luminaire is recently used in commercial and industrial high-bay applications where quality light levels and energy savings are imperative. It can also satisfy various luminous intensity distributions as well as aesthetic designs. Despite these advantages, up to now, most domestic luminaire designers have only concentrated their attention on design matters without optical consideration in Korea. Even if they know accurate optical calculation process, it is difficult to design a prismatic luminaire with the luminous intensity distribution required in a space, because the design process requires much trial and error. The process also requires much design time. Micro-Genetic Algorithm (μ-GA) is one of the improved forms of Genetic Algorithm (GA), which has been used to find an optimum solution, and to reduce iteration and computing resources by using small populations. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to introduce a luminous intensity distribution model of a dome pendant prismatic luminaire and to develop a design algorithm that is able to find an optimum luminaire optical design solution using μ-GA.
