Abstract

A model for interlaminar normal stresses in singly curved laminates was presented in previous works. This work presents another postprocess method for interlaminar normal stresses in doubly curved and moderately thick laminates. It is based on the through-the-thickness equilibrium equation for arbitrary doubly curved shells. This method is linked with a commercial shell element and works for arbitrary laminates. The interlaminar normal stresses are calculated for two different geometries with different materials, lay-ups, and thicknesses. These results are compared with finite element solid modeling results.
