Abstract
The paper considers the description of the longitudinal and transverse damping of unidirectional composites, introducing different damping coefficients associated with the motions of fibres in the longitudinal and transverse directions. A new model is developed for describing the transverse damping of composites. The results are compared to the experimental results obtained for glass fibre, carbon fibre and Kevlar-fibre composites.
