Abstract

•N-Zy as an anti-stripping agent in glasphalt inhibit rutting & moisture sensitivity.•The modified mixtures with N-Zy showed higher values of tensile strength.•N-Zy improves bitumen stiffness and reduces permanent deformation of glasphalt.•SEM images shows that Specific Area of modified bitumen is increased.•N-Zy as an anti-stripping agent can improve cohesive between aggregates and glass.

Several researches have been done for evaluating the mechanical and mechanical properties of glasphalt mixtures. Stripping and moisture damage are the main causes of glasphalt deterioration. Moisture damage in hot mix asphalt (HMA) occurs due to a loss of adhesion and/or cohesion, resulting in the reduced strength or stiffness of the HMA and the development of various forms of pavement distress. There are several different approaches for improving adhesion and reducing moisture sensitivity in asphalt mixtures. Anti-stripping agents are widely used to mix with asphalt to improve the adhesion on the aggregate surface. The aim of this study is to evaluate some mechanical properties and moisture sensitivity of glasphalt mixture modified with nanotechnology zycosoil as an anti-stripping agent. To achieve this goal, 5 types of mixtures with different percentage of nanotechnology zycosoil (0%, 0.5%, 2.5% and 4.5%) and glass particles (10%) were prepared and the moisture susceptibility and some of mechanical properties of modified glasphalt mixtures such as stiffness modulus, creep compliance and indirect tensile strength are evaluated. Results showed that nanotechnology zycosoil as an anti-stripping agent can improve mechanical properties and moisture sensitivity of glasphalt mixtures.
