Abstract
Global aging is progressing and the number of elderly population is rapidly increasing in most of the countries. The Japanese society is unique in terms of the longest life span, the highest ratio of the elderly population, the highest ratio of the late elderly and the fastest transition from the aging society to the aged society. Along with aging of the society, there will be more and more patients with dementia and depression.Three stages, biological, personal and social life capacity, are proposed to be adopted to clear concept of dementia and MCI, which can be better integrated into the biological definition and application of biological marker for dementia and MCI.
