Abstract
Certain central points of Dr. Fred Pine's paper “Differentiation, object relation and microprocesses of identification through the mother–infant bodily relationship” are discussed. Emphasis is given on the centrality of the mother–infant relationship for the appearance of more differentiated and more integrated processes in the developing child, and on the complexity of the achievement of identification and its long-term significance for personality development.
