Abstract
The aim of this applied research was to evaluate the in situ performance of field-moulded joint sealants (FMSs) in dams situated in cold climates. 1- and 2-component FMS: polyurethanes, polysulphides, silicone, etc., were selected based on extensive laboratory study. These selected sealants were installed in horizontal, vertical and inclined joints at different locations of five Hydro-Québec dams, mostly on crest. They were periodically inspected for their in situ performance over a period of 1–4 years. Cost effectiveness was also carried out which could be of value to all potential users.
