Abstract
Prone positioning is easy to perform and associated with improved oxygenation in patients with severe acute lung injury. Prone positioning requires strong involvement of nurses caring for the patients. Two important phases are identified during prone positioning: a careful preparation phase and a rigorous installation and monitoring phase. A specific written procedure should be used detailing the technique and all means that must be implemented to reduce the risk of complications.
