Color identification of some Turkish marbles

Colors of marbles can be found in wide variety in nature. Since, marbles are used as decorative covering stone, their appearance is very important. Value of marbles in construction markets are changing according to their colors and textural characteristics. This paper describes how the colors of some Turkish marbles differentiate from each other. Color identification software, MCA, had been developed in this research for capturing different colors of marbles according to Red, Green, Blue (RGB) and Hue, Saturation, Intensity (HIS), color codes. Computer files including these codes have been saved in a color databank of national marbles. These values can also be used to classify the marbles homogeneity according to regional or origin bases. Digital color codes help the marble trader to identify colors of their marble products numerically which eliminate subjective decisions based on human eyes.
