Abstract
Stress factors of a patient hospitalized in an intensive care unit can be responsible of psychiatric symptoms in the months following his discharge, seriously impairing his quality of life. Many survivors of intensive care have traumatic memories (nightmares), which can be associated to a posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) or anxiodepressive symptoms. The prevalence of PTSD in the months following the stay in intensive care is estimated between 14 and 41%, the prevalence of the symptoms of anxiety between 12% and 47%, and of depression between 10% and 30%. The recent observational literature underlines the insufficiency of prevention and care of these symptoms.
