Abstract
There are an increasing number of aged anaesthesiologists maintaining their professional activity over time. Their work load remains heavy whatever their age but some activities such as night shifts are especially stressful. A survey has suggested that aged anaesthesiologists are more frequently sued in judiciary procedures. Professional experience, increasing with age, may counterbalance the decline of cognitive function. Maintaining a professional activity requires that anaesthesiologists attend postgraduate educational courses to maintain their expertise.
