Abstract
Event-related potentials participate to the neuropsychological exploration of non-communicating patients. For example, they may allow to predict the return to consciousness of comatose patients, and to detect awareness in patients for whom clinical examinations do not allow a precise diagnosis. Developments of these techniques, which are stemming from cognitive neurosciences, are expected to improve cognitive prognosis in these patients, and to allow communication with those of them who are conscious but unable to communicate behaviourally (brain-computer interfaces).
