Abstract
The review of the clinical studies published these 15 last years and evaluating the effectiveness of prevention measures of nosocomial infections now makes it possible to define a positive and pragmatic programme of prevention of some of these complications. This article proposes a strategy and priorities to be applied in the intensive care setting. This strategy can be implemented in its totality with a workload which remains nevertheless heavy, or the intensivist can select among the indicators proposed those which he wants to initially use according to the local context. Whatever the option selected, physicians and nurses will have to work together to obtain the maximum of results.
