Abstract
Myocardial biologic markers, brain natriuretic peptide (BNP) and troponins are of great interest in diagnosis, prognosis, treatment along with clinical setting in our critically ill patients. In very common diseases in intensive care units such as acute coronary syndrome, cardiac pulmonary œdema, ARDS, pulmonary embolism, septic shock, BNP and troponin levels are well correlated with prognosis and mortality. They cannot replace other exams such as echocardiography, tomodensitometry, and pulmonary artery catheter) but they can be a first choice real-time marker for selection and evaluation of our treatments. Complexity of patient pathologies and difficulties of myocardial performance in vivo evaluation, should lead us to use these biomarkers in daily practice.
