Abstract
Use of efficient alternative devices is the cornerstone of difficult airway management occurring in the pre-hospital emergency setting. Alternatives techniques of intubation have to be used according to a predefined algorithm. The two main alternative airway devices are the Gum elastic bougie and the Intubating Laryngeal Mask Airway Fastrachâ¢. When Bougie and Fastrach⢠fail to control airway in patients with ventilation difficulties, cricothyrotomy remains the ultimate technique which must be used.
