Abstract
Cervical artery dissections may be triggered by precipitating factors. Their occurrence may also be linked to preexisting anomalies of the arterial wall. This article focuses on the various aspects of underlying vascular malformations, anomalies of the extracellular matrix, as well as on possible trigger factors favouring acute arterial dissection. It summarizes the major principles of patient management.
