Abstract
Information systems should play a role in quality of care improvement. Brain trauma was the earliest disease involved in this evolution. This was due to efforts in the standardization of care and the determination of thresholds for both intracranial pressure and cerebral perfusion pressure. Systems developed to build intelligent tools include a data recording system, a storage area, a powerful computation unit, and a communication and security unit. An example of principles of medical knowledge programming using the recommendations of brain hemodynamic management is described. Further advances in this field should allow information feedback to caregivers, scientific societies, and help in making complex decisions in accordance with critical care recommendations.
