Abstract
Identification of the cause of a resuscitated sudden arrhythmic death is warranted for an appropriate therapeutic strategy. The main aims are (1) to determine whether Implantable Cardiovertor Defibrillator (ICD) implantation is necessary or not, (2) to adjust future treatment to the specificity of each cause for the patient as well as for his relatives in case of inherited arrhythmic syndrome. Some critical data can be retrieved only at the very early phase after the sudden death. We will present and discuss the different causes of sudden arrhythmic death with emphasis on reversible causes and on causes with specific treatments. We will also propose a workup for the search for aetiology after resuscitated sudden arrhythmic death.
