Abstract
Preemptive antifungal treatment in ICUs is dedicated to patients heavily colonized in association with risk factors to develop a systemic candidiasis. Few tools are available to target specifically this population. Only three randomized studies have been published to evaluate the potential benefit of preemptive fungal treatment in ICUs. They all reported negative effects without a decrease in mortality and of the incidence of systemic candidiasis. Preemptive antifungal treatment cannot therefore be recommended in ICUs for the moment.
