Artificial nutrition is part of therapeutics in intensive care units. There are few studies about metabolic response to aggression in obese critically ill patients. However, obese stressed patients are unable to preserve their nutritional during prolonged starvation. They can suffer from malnutrition and nutrition support should be provided using similar recommendations, indications and routes as in non-obese patients. A nutritional intake of 20 kcal/kg per day (actual body weight) and 1,3 g/kg per day of protein is often recommended.
