Abstract
Since the nineties, ETEST has become a widely accepted alternative quantitative susceptibility testing method for bacteria including difficult to assess organisms such as Mycobacterium. Reference dilution test using broth or agar are generally difficult to perform. Accurate quantitative susceptibility testing is very important to guide antibiotic therapy in many circumstances. ETEST method is rapid and easy, available for quantitative determination of antibiotic susceptibility testing, detection of resistance mechanisms, detection of synergy or antagonism in antibiotic combination tests and useful in many other situations. ETEST appears to be an excellent alternative to reference and standardized method for producing quantitative activity measurement.
