Abstract
												Gastrointestinal motility disorders occur frequently in intensive care unit patients and are associated with increased morbidity and mortality. This article focuses on recent advances in the comprehension of the underlying pathophysiological mechanisms; this comprehension will enable in the future a more rational approach of the clinical manifestations, as well as individually tailored and more effective treatments.
