Abstract
Cohort studies are one of the epidemiological designs used most in research in health sciences. Their results are considered to make up a high level of scientific evidence and to have achieved great impact on the recommendations made by the different clinical practice guidelines. Their most fundamental features, such us utility, classification, design, analysis, interpretation, advantages and limitations, are summarized, discussed and disseminated in this review article.
