Abstract
Functional disorders are a common cause of chronic nonspecific pain, which is associated with high socioeconomic costs and severe therapeutic problems. The frequent participation of the amygdala in such cases is conspicuous. There is some evidence that this fact represents a variation of incomplete or partial tonic immobility. The consequence would be a specific therapeutic regime, which will be demonstrated in this article. The results of an appropriate pilot study will be presented.
