Abstract
This article explores the key issues surrounding the education and continuous professional development (CPD) of the non-registered workforce within the neonatal unit in line with the relevant literature and National perspective. The paper also describes a project proposal aiming to meet the education needs of this group of workers. The focus of the discussion is on the non-registered workforce who have direct patient contact with neonates and families such as nursery nurses and health care assistants working on the special care and/or transitional care unit (TCU). The discussion pertains to the Trusts and Networks who deal with the author's higher education establishment for their CPD requirements.
