Abstract
Osteoporosis is a serious health problem of endemic proportions in the United States. Approximately 50% of women will experience an osteoporosisârelated fracture during their lifetimes. With the increase in the population of women age 65Â and older, nurses need to be familiar with osteoporosis risks, prevention strategies, and screening guidelines to promote wellâwoman care. We provide an overview of the medications approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to treat and prevent osteoporosis.
