Abstract
Available health and social services in women's correctional facilities often do not consider the interrelationship of gender, trauma, and mental illness. As a result, preexisting health issues are often exacerbated, leaving women to reenter their communities with more complex health needs. We propose that a traumaâinformed framework can be used to guide clinical interactions with female inmates. A case study is presented as an example of proposed best clinical practice. Future traumaârelated practice implications are provided.
