Abstract
Atrophic vaginitis affects approximately 50% of women going through menopause or in a postmenopausal state, yet many of these women do not receive treatment for this condition, either from a lack of awareness by their provider or their own discomfort with discussing their symptoms. This article reviews the pathophysiologic changes underlying the development of atrophic vaginitis and signs and symptoms. A discussion of current treatment recommendations, along with the pros and cons for each type of therapy, is also presented.
