Abstract

Breast cancer is the second leading cause of cancer deaths in women with a hereditary predisposition. Early detection of this cancer improves treatment outcomes. Based on best practice evidence, advanced practice nurses must be knowledgeable of the most accurate screening tools for diagnosing breast cancer. This article presents the current guidelines and the best practice evidence that supports the addition of MRI as a screening tool for women with BRCA mutations. Recommendations for clinical practice are also presented.
