Abstract
Research has shown a distinct correlation between the human papillomavirus (HPV) and different cancers in men. One of the largest growing populations to suffer HPV-associated cancers is high-risk male populations, including men who have sex with men and men infected with HIV/AIDS. A quadrivalent HPV vaccine, now in use for the prevention of female HPV-associated cancers, may hold promise for reduction of HPV-associated cancers in these populations. The purposes of this article are to provide information on HPV, define and discuss HPV-associated cancers within this population, and discuss future implications for APNs for disease prevention with this group.
