Abstract
Clopidogrel has established efficacy in the treatment and prevention of acute coronary syndrome, coronary artery disease, and peripheral vascular disease. A recent warning issued by the FDA regarding interactions between clopidogrel and certain commonly prescribed medications has important implications in the management of patients' pharmacotherapeutic regimens. This article offers an evidence-based review of clopidogrel pharmacology to better understand the FDA warning. Additionally, the article provides a nurse practitioner-derived action plan for identifying and addressing potential drug interactions in patients, with the goals of maintaining clopidogrel efficacy and adequately managing other comorbid conditions.
