Abstract
When discussing the subject of professional sexual boundaries with colleagues, frequently the response is, “That is just common sense!” However, when asked more specific questions about crossing professional boundaries, the responses become more tentative. Is it OK to date a patient? Do current laws cover such action in the state where you practice? Is there harm if the patient consents and is an adult? Is it OK if no overt sexual activity occurs? Is it OK to date a family member of a patient? This article aims to clarify these questions.
